Chapel by the Lake
11024 Auke Lake Way
Juneau, AK 99801
Between majestic mountains adorned with grand glaciers and channels of ocean waters that thread through clusters of islands, and nestled amongst the largest national forest in the United States, is Juneau, Alaska... along with our bears, eagles, ravens, whales, porcupines, deer, salmon, and crabs! With no road access, Juneau is the only state capital in the United States that must be reached by airplane or boat. And it is here in this very unique city of approximately 33,000 residents, you will find Chapel by the Lake which declares “...to know Jesus and make Him known!”
Chapel by the Lake serves a busy community that wrestles with typical modern city concerns of homelessness and loneliness, along with the unique geographic challenges of living with extremes- most notably being in a very northern rainforest (snowfall averages 87.4 inches and precipitation falls on an average 230 days per year, ranging from 55 to 92 inches.)
Chapel by the Lake also strives to be hospitable to the over 1.8 million tourists that cruise to our Juneau docks, and to the many state workers during legislative sessions, and to offer a welcoming care to our village neighbors that rely on our “big city” services. And in this, God’s world surrounding our church declares His omnipresence and omniscient glory. It is to this that we invite you to come to Chapel by the Lake, Juneau, Alaska- where there are many opportunities “...to know Jesus and make Him known!”
Locally, Chapel by the Lake partners supporting the Glory Hole, a center for the homeless; Love INC, designed to pool and leverage church resources for Juneau neighbors in need; Pioneer Home, providing monthly worship services and support to a state retirement facility; Young Life, outreach to teenagers; Family Promise, supporting families in need; Lemon Creek Correctional Facility and Bartlett Regional Hospital, providing volunteer chaplains; Christ Community Ministries, contributing to retreats and community events; and in service for our village churches. Globally, Chapel by the Lake partners in support of ministries in South Sudan, Kenya, Senegal, Turkey, Palestine, and the Netherlands.
We enjoy working to strengthen our Chapel family. We have three Sunday morning worship services, the first in our historic log chapel. Our Christian education opportunities include Sunday classes for all ages, midweek youth programs and Bible Studies, adult midweek small home groups and Bible Studies, music praise teams, vocal choir, bell choir, Wednesday dinners, potlucks, special conferences and mission trips.
There are many opportunities to partner with us! Always welcome is your prayer support. You may also consider enjoying Juneau for a season taking on a cruise industry job, participating in University of Alaska Southeast coursework, crafting your own personal study leave, or volunteering in one of our local ministries. We are a busy place, though there is always much to do, we will happily take the time to welcome you and assist you in making Juneau your home!
